Achong and Richardson Reach Final Four

Let’s Go! Huge congratulations are due for Daevenia Achong and Eden Richardson as they continued their run in the NCAA Doubles Championships as they head to the Final Four. The first time a Miami Hurricanes duo has achieved the feat since 1988. After dispatching of UNC is straight sets the Canes duo faced a tough Texas duo and persevered with a 7-6 (7-3), 5-7, 1-0 (10-5) victory.

“I thought we were pretty incredible,” Miami head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews said. “We were attacking returns, we were shutting down the middle, we were using the lob and line when we had to. I think, tennis-wise, we looked great.”

The Miami Hurricanes sent a duo to the Final Four from 1984-1988 but haven’t been back since. Achong and Richardson also became the first Miami duo to win 3 matches in this tournament since 1992. Miami will face #12 Miyamoto and Rioux of Oklahoma State in the Semi-Finals on Friday afternoon.

About the Author: Legend Staff

The Legend Staff is comprised of some of the hungriest young writers in South Florida. They are the cogs in the Legend engine that nobody knows. If you need to put a face to them, think minions with Canes tattoos. Unless thinking that is a copyright violation. In that case just think of them as worker ants. Easily removed with a magnifying glass if they get out of line.
