Week One- Boys and Boos vs Bethune Cookman

The Mario Era has begun and it’s Boys and Boos time! The Miami Hurricanes takedown Bethune Cookman in dominant fashion 70-13 . Only seven points away from tying a school record but who’s counting. I am here to give you my BOYS (players of the game) and BOOS (things I didn’t like). If you follow me on twitter, you know how much of a roller coaster of emotions a Miami game is for me.

Miami Hurricanes run through the smoke as the Mario Cristobal era begins

The BOYS

Henry Parrish Jr is that dude. 14 carries for 108 yards and three touchdowns. With Rooster out Parrish got the bulk of the carries and did not disappoint. As a team, Miami had 305 yards rushing and averaged 7.3 yards a carry. What a relief!

The WR Room did not have a drop that I saw. All camp long this was a big worry with inconsistent play. We didn’t need to throw the ball much but no drops was refreshing to see. Xavier Restrepo lead the charge 5 catches, 99 yards and a tuddy.

Key’Shawn Smith on kickoff was a treat. Look at what you get when you actually have a real coach that coaches ST. Smith averaged 61.3 yards per return, and was a toe out of bounds away from a touchdown.

I guess I could really highlight the entire offense, they did what they were supposed to do against a FCS opponent. The O-line, Will Mallory, Van Dimes. 70 POINTS! wow.

& BOOS

Well, Miami gave up 298 more yards than I wanted them to give up in this game. But seriously there are some things on this defense that is going to need attention. Too many chunk plays today. There was big reception over Tyrique Stevenson. A missed tackle by Ivey. Too many plays over 25 yards for my liking.

Where was the pressure from the dominate D-line we have heard about all camp? The first sack didn’t come until late in the first half and I counted 3 sacks overall. That was not something you expect vs. an FCS team. The LB play was sub par, pass defense was shaky and a missed assignment ended in a touchdown for BCU. Things that will get corrected.

Overall can I really complain about anything when you win by 57?
