OBB Game Time: Texas A&M vs. Miami Hurricanes

It is OBB GAME TIME: Texas A&M vs. YOUR Miami Hurricanes. Hurricane fans have been waiting for this one for quite a while. This will be the first real road test against a quality opponent in the Mario Cristobal era. Sure, the Aggies took a hit when those pesky Mountaineers beat them (that is just apparently what they do) but expect a fight.

The Miami Hurricanes lead the series all time two games to one. Currently the Miami Hurricanes own a back to back winning streak vs the Aggies of A&M. (2007-2008) The Hurricanes boast five national championships and the Aggies own three. Miami also owns the edge in all time winning percentage with a .629 vs. the Aggies’ .605.

GIVE ME THE KEYS: OBB GAME TIME: TEXAS A&M KEYS TO THE GAME

Get some explosive plays. Vs. Southern Miss, the Miami Hurricanes had scoring drives of 16, 9, 10, 13, 12, & 7 play drives. Texas A&M still has a pretty stout defense giving up only 256.5 yards a game which is good for third in the Southeastern Conference. Although it would benefit Miami to keep the time of possession battle in their favor, (App State held the ball for 41 minutes and 29 seconds) getting a couple quick scores would settle the offense in. Obtaining early confidence on the road is going to also play dividends.

Have a plan when the Aggies take your run away. Miami has the 15th best rushing attack in the nation at 241.0 yards a game. Texas A&M is going to strategize to minimize your returns in the run game. Because of the early season effectiveness of the Hurricane ground game, the Aggies almost have to. There has to be a plan in place for Tyler Van Dyke to take over in the passing game. He simply cannot be a game manager this week. TVD needs to have clear moments where he is the guy.

Limit the big plays defensively. You get the sense when Jimbo Fisher’s squad has the 102nd ranked offense in the country, he has to get creative. Nothing jolts an anemic offense more than a couple big plays of its own. Do not get beat over the top on the outside avenues this week. Cornerbacks need to find the ball and play the deep ball better. The Hurricanes front has swallowed up designed runs all season but you cannot fall asleep at the wheel. Play sound up front and limit long runs. Have to keep the 12th man at bay and they will get frenzied at any sign of life offensively.
