OBB Game Time: Miami Hurricanes at Virginia Tech
It is OBB GAME TIME: Miami Hurricanes at Virginia Tech. The Hurricanes are in the midst of a three game losing streak and need to find answers fast. That answer might come in the form of the Hokies who currently rank tied for 11th in conference with a meager 20 points per game scoring average.
In terms of the ALL TIME SERIES the Hurricanes have a distinct advantage with 24 all time wins vs the Hokies’ 15. Currently Miami has a two game winning streak vs. the Hokies. (2020-2021) The Virginia Tech Hokies have never won a national championship but hold the advantage with 11 conference championships to Miami’s credited 9.

GIVE ME THE KEYS – OBB GAME TIME – MIAMI HURRICANES AT VIRGINIA TECH
Red zone cannot be the dead zone. The unfortunate theme of the year offensively has been that of red zone efficiency, or lack thereof. Miami improved to 78th nationally with a 60.71% TD scoring percentage but that still isn’t good enough. The drives that stall out due to lack of creativity or the stubbornness to just run into a wall need to stop. Offensive Coordinator Josh Gattis took full responsibility for the red zone woes this week, that is a start.
Stop playing hero ball. The secondary needs to stop acting like Ed Reed and do its job. The Miami Hurricanes are in basic coverage packages yet they continue to give up explosive plays in the passing game. The main catalyst for this team’s sluggish start is the combination or red zone inefficiency and explosive plays given up. Miami is dead last in the country in opponent pass plays over 50 yards with 6.
Make your kicks. Sophomore kicker Andres Borregales currently sits 8th in conference with a 72.7% field goal percentage. One more made field goal here and there and this team could win a much needed game. The makeable ones need to be made and you cannot witness another 10-15 play drive end in a missed kick.
