Canes WBB Dominates FAU 75-42

Coral Gables – The Miami Hurricanes women’s hoops squad welcomed back head coach Katie Meier with a dominating 75-42 victory over FAU. Meier had been serving a three-game suspension to start the season.

The Hurricanes came out a bit sluggish while FAU came out with lots of fire. The result was a scrappy first four minutes that saw both teams struggle to hit any shots. Karla Erjavec’s three-pointer at the 6:36 mark gave the Canes a 7-2 and they would not look back. The Cavinder twins combined for a three-pointer from Haley and then Hanna laid up a Lashae Dwyer pass on their way to a 18-10 lead after the first quarter.

Lazaria Spearman and Dwyer could not be stopped as they combined for 29 points on 13-of-19 shooting. Spearman added 10 boards for a double-double. The Canes used their physicality to lean into FAU in the paint. Out rebounding the Owls 50-36 and dominating the offensive glass with 18 boards. The only negative for the Canes was their three-point shooting as they converted only 4 of 20 attempts.

The canes finished their opening four game set with a perfect record of 4-0 and cleared 80 points in three of those contests. Now they will leave the friendly confines of the Watsco Center and hit the road. They travel to Chicago this weekend to face DePaul on Sunday followed by Loyola-Chicago on Tuesday.

If you need to put a face to them, think minions with Canes tattoos. Unless thinking that is a copyright violation. In that case just think of them as worker ants. Easily removed with a magnifying glass if they get out of line.
