Good morning Canes. This is your Friday morning wake up call from you friendly neighborhood OBB’s. This edition shows some silence, a rival bowl win and the hoopsters are back in action today after a long layoff. Damn snow. I think we should head on over to the Greentree. #letsgo #wake up.
The Miami Hurricanes have only one bowl win the last 16 years. That of course was the Russell Athletic Bowl in 2016 when the Hurricanes beat the West Virginia Mountaineers 31-14 in Orlando. The aftermath of this 5-7 season however included watching a rival win ten after a bowl game last night.
The Florida State Seminoles outlasted the Oklahoma Sooners last night 35-32 in the Cheez-it Bowl. Sure, the Sooners finished the season with a losing record (6-7) and that isn’t much of a feather in FSU’s cap. But the Seminoles have a ten win season and their offense averaged over 40 points a game the last 6 games.
And in wins this season, FSU averaged 40.3 points per game. Say what you will, but the OBB stance will never change into perpetuity. The Hurricanes need to score more points. Pleasant reminder, Josh Gattis is still employed by the University of Miami. Very simple formula to understand here. FSU had twice as many wins and twice as many points. (Miami scored 19.4 points a game vs. Power 5 competition)
“They don’t call holding on FSU I see.”
“That’s why Travis is staying another year.”
“I hate Florida State.”
Cormani McClain has gone silent. McClain is in Orlando for the 2023 Under Armour All American Game and hasn’t answered any media questions about his signing status. What remains in the wake of the silence is either rumor or innuendo. Is it grades, transcript issues or does McClain just plan on enrolling and not “signing” all together?
The Five Orange Prospect and number one cornerback in the land is surely going to continue to be a hot topic of discussion. In this case, the longer his recruitment goes without him signing is neither a net positive or negative for the Miami Hurricanes. It just is what it is.
“Also it’s important to realize that Cormani didn’t stay quiet on his commitment to Miami He reaffirmed it.” -Leeds
“It was not grades. Grades don’t keep a kid from signing.”
Former Miami Hurricane K.J. Osborn did a great thing. And no we aren’t talking about his performance during his team’s miracle win vs. the Indianapolis Colts. Osborn helped a family who was enduring periods of homelessness get back on their feet. Jory and Kaleigha were the Minneapolis family in need of their own miraculous intervention.
Osborn in partnership with the Salvation Army covered the couple’s apartment deposit. “Thank you from the bottom of my heart. This means that my family finally has a place to be a family.” Kaleigha had tears of joy as she commented. Osborn also provided rent assistance for two other families in the Twin Cites this past holiday. Good man.
As the Miami Men’s basketball team is finally ranked 14th in the AP Top 25 with an impressive 12-1 record, they join the ranks of four other ACC schools. Virginia, Duke and UNC help round out the ranked Atlantic Coast Conference continuants in the latest poll.
The Hurricanes luck looks to continue as they face off vs. Notre Dame today at 2. pm in South Bend. The Miami Hurricanes haven’t played in ten days due to their game vs. Vermont canceled due to inhospitable weather.
“10 days is a long time to not play a game.” -Matty Ice
“F@%k you Duke and Carolina.”
