OBB: The Wake Up
It’s Hump Day and this is your OBB Wednesday morning wake up call. The Miami Hurricanes continue their charge on becoming offseason champs. A tradition like no other. Should we head on over to the Greentree? Let’s go! Wake Up!
the Greentree
The Under Armour All-American game showed continued dominance by Rueben “Hurricane” Bain. Bain was a member of team “Speed” and was quick to become a disruptive force. The Miami native added numerous pressures, a tackle and a batted pass at the line of scrimmage.
So is there a case that Bain should have been a five star?
“Recruiting sites openly admit they’re evaluating to the NFL, not college. He doesn’t have the first round frame, so not a 5 star.” -Lance Roffers
“Know what Bain has that nothing can measure? It is a Mt. Everest size chip on his shoulder. Michael Jordan also had a Mt. Everest chip on his shoulder (and it) took him pretty far.”
Fellow team Speed teammate Cormani McClain broke his silence and finally spoke with the media. McClain reaffirmed his commitment to the Miami Hurricanes and added he will sign on January 15th. This coincides with the add drop dates for the University of Miami.
McClain can not officially sign a National Letter of Intent with a program until Feb. 1. which is National Signing Day. However, he would be able to sign a non-binding financial aid agreement with Miami in January.
In an interview at the UA All American game McClain stated that he was in the same spot with his recruitment and he wanted a chance to play early and be developed. The Miami Hurricanes staff have expected McClain to be a member of the 2023 class and have not wavered. (Yet)

Manny Diaz is a Rose Bowl champion. 13 months after being fired from the University of Miami, the Penn State Nittany Lions defeated Utah 35-21 in the Granddaddy of them all. The reception was mixed. On one hand a lot of congratulatory feedback. On the other, a stern pointing to.
Former Hurricane defensive lineman Demetrius Jackson told the former coach via social that he was proud of him and that he was NOT the problem. Malik Rosier was quick to chime in that he was. Rosier also did so in emphatic percentage based fashion. 10000000000000%
I love you DJack but yes he was. 10000000000000%

Manny Diaz had a successful first couple years as defensive coordinator with the Miami Hurricanes. He was nominated for the Broyles Award and had a top five defense in 2018. Diaz however never regained his footing during his second stint as DC while serving simultaneously as Hurricane Head Coach.
Part of the decline was his inability to recruit effectively especially at the linebacker position. Not one of his linebackers recruited while at the University of Miami were drafted to the NFL. Diaz having initial success as a defensive coordinator with players he didn’t recruit is something familiar to Hurricane fans.
“Can he become a good HC, yeah. But he’s better at being a DC with players he didn’t recruit.”
“Rosier is just speaking the truth.”
“Instead of injecting flash into tradition he made flash the tradition.”
manny diaz is 2-7 in games of his I’ve attended, so I feel fantastic about Utah in the Rose Bowl

Recruiting Central
Expect the portal activity for the Miami Hurricanes to become more active. A name that has emerged is Anthony Lucas. Another TAMU defector who fits the bill along the defensive line that Mario Cristobal is looking for. Of note, the 6’6″ 270 pound lineman’s father is a Hurricane alumnus.
“Word is Alabama.”

In the ask Leeds portion of this Wake Up, the OBBL insider’s take when asked who were going to be some immediate portal targets:
“Ok just got an update for the portal expectations; both visitors this weekend, the center from UCF, the Kentucky DT and Dont’e. Not sure what the hold up is there but was told it’s done. As for other WR targets, we all know the deal with Dubose but there is a monster entering and he’s all Miami when he does. Now I know I’ve heard that bravado before but what I will say is I expect us to get him when he enters. BUT everyone will want him.”
