OBB: The Wake Up

It is finally Friday. And this is your official OBB Wake Up call. The Miami Hurricanes are continuing their efforts on becoming the off season champions. With the weekend ahead of us, I think it is time to go to the Greentree. Let’s go! Wake up!

the Greentree

The Miami Hurricanes are well represented at the All-American Bowl. But one player in particular who has caught the attention of the masses is Nathaniel “Ray Ray” Joseph. At All-American Bowl practice, Joseph has been lightning in a bottle personified.

Coach Mario Cristobal knew it. Immediately after the signing of Joseph he had this to say, “Ray Ray, come on now (you) can’t find a bigger playmaker than that out there.” Now the rest of the nation has taken notice of Joseph’s speed and pass catching ability.

Steve Wiltfong, Director of Recruiting for @247Sports and selection partner for the All-American Bowl, called Joseph arguably the top slot in America. In Wiltfong’s estimation the speedy and dynamic Miami Edison product will be able to help the Hurricanes next fall.

The 2023 All-American Bowl will be at 1:00 PM on Saturday January 7th.

“Now if only Gattis knew how to call an offense.”

Former Miami Hurricane Mark Pope was demonstratively removed from the Jackson State program by then head coach Deion Sanders. In an episode of “Coach Prime.” an Amazon Prime Video docuseries, Pope was called a cancer and after a team vote, Sanders forced him to leave the team.

The method teetered on egotistical and maniacal madness. While Sanders was well within his right to remove a player he felt was cancerous, Pope will now suffer the aftermath of such public humiliation for years to come.

In an online tweet, which has since been removed by Pope, the former Hurricane wideout explained some tumultuous times while at Jackson State. He recounted a situation where although he was there on July 5th, Pope practiced without a physical or even being enrolled. He claimed to unfortunately and ultimately suffer an injury in that time fame.

“I have NEVER been a bad kid to be labeled as a cancer.” Pope explained. Despite the theatrical release of him on television, Pope was still grateful for the opportunity that was given and ended his now deleted statement by thanking coach Prime for the opportunity.

“Deion looked like an asshole in that clip.”

“My coach never gave me a chance, but thank you coach, for the opportunity?”

“He literally has everyone call him Coach Prime.”

“That’s still a kid. You can’t do that. This isn’t the NFL.”

Recruiting Central

The Hurricanes are looking at the portal to bring someone to compete at the center position. Matt Lee is the former UCF center who Miami is expected to make a serious run at. The 6-3, 285 Lee would be the second Coral Gable bound Knight joining Davonte Brown.

The reviews are mixed with Jakai Clark. Although the fourth-year junior from Loganville, Ga has had flashes of good play, the line in general has been embattled and under fire. The expectations of a complete overhaul at that position group isn’t unrealistic. And we expect a center to arrive via the portal at some point.

“If we for some reason don’t get the UCF Center I could see this shift but I think we’ve got our entire DL/OL transfer class locked up.” -Leeds
