OBB: The Wake Up

Good morning sunshine it’s hump day. And this is your official OBB Wednesday morning wake up call. The Canes Hoops squad rebounded in a big way, some portal names emerge and the Gator Collective is broke. Let’s head on down to the Greentree shall we. #LETSGO! WAKE UP!

the Greentree

In an update from yesterday, former Miami Hurricane quarterback commit Jadan Rashada has requested out of his Gator’s NLI. Rashada wants out of Gainesville and the plan is for him to open back up his recruitment.

The Orlando Sentinel reported that Rashada’s NIL deal with UF and the Gator Collective was for 13 million. The check apparently bounced. At least that is what Miami fans will feverishly hold on to. The Miami Hurricanes seemed to have dodged the proverbial bullet here with Rashada.

“Jaden Rashada is not worth the money he is requesting. He is a good ball player but I have watched high school quarterbacks for over 10 years. You have to be generational to ask that much. Rashada is not generational.” -Roman

With the Greentree being relatively quiet this morning, good time to note that the Boys return. Chapter 54 of the Mario era will be live shortly after the posting of this article.

Recruiting Central

A couple portal names for Miami Hurricane fans to keep an eye on and one is definitely at a dire position of need. USC WR transfer Gary Bryant Jr. will take an official visit to Miami beginning Friday according to 247’s Gaby Urrutia. The 5-11 wideout from Corona, California has drawn comparisons to Robert Woods.

The former Trojan had a remarkable season in 2021 hauling in 44 catches, 7 touchdowns and netting 579 yards. Productivity slipped in 2022 after a hamstring injury and a medical red shirt year derailed most of his season. Bryant Jr. only had two catches last season.

The Hurricanes elusive quest to nab a high profile outside wide receiver continues. Head coach Mario Cristobal was adamant after ESD that his team was in need of one.

“Garry Bryant Jr. is dynamic. Need to do everything in our power to land him. He can play inside and outside. Return kick, etc. Open up the check book.”

“He’s one of the WRs I mentioned weeks ago. One of the SEC names has changed, the other hasn’t. Still two that Miami thinks they can get along with Bryant.” – Leeds

Also a name to become familiar with. Former Oregon tight end Cam McCormick. McCormick was the third Duck’s tight end to leave the program this offseason. And a possible reuniting with his ole’ head coach seems fortuitous and favorable.

McCormick began his college coaching career in 2016, but due to various injuries over the years, he’s received another year of eligibility. Miami Hurricanes tight end and OBB alum Will Mallory has graduated and Elijah Arroyo had a season ending injury last year. Senior help at the position would be a luxury.

“I am being told Cam McCormick to Miami.” -Leeds

“For what a graduate assistant? The dude is like 30. He’s been in college longer than Dr. Patchan was.”

Hard Woodies

The Hurricanes are now 14-2 on the season after defeating Boston College 88-72. The Canes are also now 5-1 in the ACCC basketball standings just one spot behind Clemson. This is a nice bounce back win for the Larranaga led Hurricanes after losing 76-70 to Georgia Tech.

Isaiah Wong was the flag barer last night. He was a blistering 3-4 from behind the arc. You add that with his 4-5 stat line inside the arc and it was safe to say Wong was on fire. And believe me, Wong needed this. He was 1-11 vs. that pesky Georgia Tech zone so he might have had that biggest rebound all night.

Matty Ice favorite Jordan Miller also was super effective shooting the ball vs. the Eagles. Miller had 19 points on 8-17 shooting including two from downtown. Miami isn’t going to lose a lot of ball games when they go 66.7% from behind the arc as a team. And that is exactly what they did. #BANG!

Player honors were given to Harlond Beverly. The 5-11 guard had 15 points, 5 assists and was a perfect 2-2 from three point land. Miami will now play NC state on the road Saturday, January 14th in Raleigh, North Carolina.

“Beverly looking damn good out there. He gets starts contributing consistently, then this team could do something special.”

“He’s got tools.”
