OBB: The Wake Up

Wake up sunshine. This is your Monday morning wake up call from your local neighborhood OBB. In this revered holiday edition, a former Hurricane is vocal and Discord-U’s Recruiting Central has portal news to talk about. #LETSGO! Wake up!

the Greentree

Former NFL Hall of Fame Hurricane Ed Reed recently agreed in principal to become Bethune Cookman’s 16th head coach. Upon arrival, Reed was livid over the conditions he found. “I’m walking out here with the football team picking up trash. I should leave, I’m not even under contract yet!”

Number 20 emphatically declared his opinion in an expletive filled rant on social media. “These Mother F***ers didn’t even clean my office when I got here!” Reed also stated later that former HBCU coach Deion Sanders was not wrong. The former NFL great formulated that HBCU’s need help because of the people running it.

Reed has since apologized over his outburst on social media. He called his tone unacceptable as a father, coach and leader. “My passion for our culture, betterment and bringing our foundation up got the best of me and I fell victim while engaged with antagonists on social media as well.”

“Ed is serious about garbage. I remember on that ACC network doc before the ’21 season he was telling kids to clean up after meetings.”

“I can’t believe he doesn’t have a contract yet.”

Recruiting Central

OBB alumni and NFL product Colin McCarthy was pretty clear when it came to Hurricane commit Cormani McClain. “Pull the offer.” McClain’s recruitment created waves when the number one corner in the country took an unexpected trip to Colorado and Coach Prime.

McClain also put out mixed signals initially denying the Colorado visit. Despite showing his location in Tampa, Florida, it is pretty clear the Lakeland product was in Boulder. Recruiting isn’t for the faint of heart and the second money didn’t sign, the recruitment officially began. Reminder, Mario is paid handsomely for such events.

McClain committed on 10/27/2022 and would be the sixth highest rated recruit in Miami Hurricane history if he signs. However the likelihood of him signing isn’t trending well for Mario and company. A decommitment is expected sooner rather than later according to Scoop.

“Love when they tag everyone.”

“Especially when it is a former player.”

Cam McCormick made it official. The eighth year tight end will reunite with his former head coach. The super senior tight end makes way from Oregon and is a perfect addition for the young pass catching room. McCormick finished last season with 10 catchers for 66 yards and three touchdowns last season.

Elijah Arroyo, Jaleel Skinner, Riley Williams Jackson Carver could use some senior leadership. McCormick was the winner of this year’s Orange Bowl-FWAA Courage Award. He was the longest tenured UO player of all time and graduated with both bachelor’s and master’s degrees.

“I feel like we have a lot of tight ends. Are we running a four TE set?”

“We have a TE who should be a veteran in the NFL”

USC WR transfer Gary Bryant Jr. visited the Miami Hurricanes for an official visit. The electric wideout called it a great time however that isn’t what stole the visit headline. There was no contact with current offensive coordinator and wide receiver coach Josh Gattis.

The Hurricanes have made it a priority to add playmaking depth at the wide out position. Bryant would emphatically fit the bill. Was it a smart move to have the primary play caller and position group coach absent from Bryant’s trip? Absolutely not. Gattis’s absence has raised speculation and sparked debate.

The 5-11 Bryant was a consensus four star recruit out of high school and had a great season last year. The Trojan transfer had 579 yards on 44 catches with 7 receiving touchdowns. Bryant also added a rushing touchdown last year in Lincoln Riley’s offense.

“Gattis hasn’t talked to anyone on the roster or been present for any visits. You connect the dots.” -Leeds

The Miami Hurricanes have also added some LB depth in the form of Duke Transfer Rocky Shelton. For a career he recorded 48 tackles, 1.5 sacks and one interception. Shelton is local product from St Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale. Shelton was a consensus three star prospect via all industry averages.

“Depth Kid. Undersized at 5-10, 225. They really disliked the LB room. Was off to a good start this year bud didn’t play after 4 games. Not sure if hurt or just decided to keep a year.” -Lance Roffers
