OBB: The Wake Up (1/24)

Wake up sunshine. The Miami Hurricanes added some depth to the cornerback room and we need that sort of thing. This is your Tuesday morning wake up call from your thoughtful OBB. #LETSGO! Wake up.

the Greentree

Former Iowa cornerback Terry Roberts has made it official. The 5-10, 185 pound senior committed to the Miami Hurricanes and will be available for the 2023 season. In 2022, he had 13 total tackles and an interception before suffering an injury that held him out for the remainder of the year.

Roberts is already enrolled and will be a participant for spring practices. In his four seasons at Iowa, he totaled 47 tackles and in ’22 graded out highly according to PFF. Roberts posted a 79.9 coverage grade and a 79.0 overall defensive grade.

This is the fifth defensive transfer for the Miami Hurricanes and the second cornerback joining Davonte Brown. Roberts joins DL, Branson Deen, LB, Francisco Mauigoa, DL, Thomas Gore and the above mentioned Brown as defensive transfers. 5/8 of the current transfers are on the defensive side of the ball.

“Great culture guy for the defense. That Iowa defense has had to hold opposing teams in the single digits to have a hope at winning.”

“Practicing against our offense will be familiar for him.”

Recruiting Central

Another name that has recently dominated the halls of Recruiting Central is 2023 athlete Nyckoles Harbor out of Archbishop Carroll in Washington DC. The Five Orange Prospect is a freak. The 6-5 235 pound Defensive End/Tight End ran a 6.64 in the 60m.

Similar to Cormani McClain, there are conflicting reports whether Harbor was recently in Colorado. Harbor’s parents said he wasn’t however his IG said he was. Deion Sanders has become a bonafide player for high profile talent so you cannot consider them longshots. The Miami Hurricanes you can.

The Miami Hurricanes apparently never got the official visit from Harbor and that never is a great sign. “It was his family and his agent, he has not officially visited.” (Miami) “I did say whoever got that visit is who gets him.” -Leeds

“It’s disappointing but not unexpected. I’m sure the staff has mostly moved on to ’24. I think Miami has a really good shot at landing another class in the 285-300 points level.”

“Then there ya go. You look at the optics of sending your mother and your agent to campus instead of coming yourself. It was over before it began.”

Sports Talk

Former Alabama OC/QB coach Bill O’Brien has returned to New England and is being named the Patriots offensive coordinator. This is according to Adam Schefter and ESPN’s Chris Low. Patriot head coach Bill Belichick did not name an official offensive coordinator in 2022.

This is the second stint as Patriots OC for O’Brien who served in the same capacity for three years in 2009-2011. O’Brien parlayed that into head coaching jobs with Penn State and eventually the Houston Texans.

Now that O’Brien is headed back to the NFL, Nick Saban will have his sixth different offensive coordinator in the past eight seasons. Of note, O’Brien has familiarity with current Patriot quarterback Mac Jones.

“Now we need Gattis to find himself a damn job.”

“Hey Nick we will foot part of the bill for your new OC if you take Gattis!”
