OBB: The Wake Up (01/26)
Wake up sunshine. This is your Thursday morning wake up call from the illustrious and dumfounding OBB. The buzz of a new OC is getting louder. Let’s head on over to the Greentree shall we? #LETSOGO! Wake up!
the Greentree
Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald recently put out an article involving Josh Gattis. As we have maintained, the much embattled offensive coordinator will not hold that role for the Miami Hurricanes in 2023. Gattis is in fact looking for another job.
“While UM hasn’t fired Josh Gattis, his buyout is significant and he’s looking for a job elsewhere. UM ultimately might pay the buyout. Per source today, there’s significant momentum toward a parting of the ways, but not 100 percent definite either:” -Barry Jackson
The somewhat cryptic entry does have a bit of conundrum conflict woven into it. He will either be here or he won’t. Regardless the mixed message is clear. If the Miami Hurricanes are prepared to pay the buyout, they are looking to replace him. Sources have reached out saying that the replacement process has already begun.
“Now Barry is reporting it. That’s a big sign.”
“It’s the last line that scares me.”
“Gattis is gone. Just a matter of time. Every sign is pointing to Gattis is gone.”

A name that materialized the last offensive coordinator search is off the board. Head coach of the Toledo Rockets Jason Candle has been extended throughout the 2026 season. The announcement came yesterday via the Toledo Vice President and Director of Athletics Bryan B. Blair.
Candle led the Rockets to a 9-5 record and MAC Championship in 2022. That was the second conference title in seven years and Candle is the third Toledo coach to claim multiple MAC titles. According to reports, Candle was offered the Miami Hurricane OC job prior to Gattis.
Toledo’s Candle is well respected in the coaching community and runs a pro style spread that Mario Cristobal has an apparent affinity for. Candle opted to stay in Toledo and has now been rewarded with an extension of his contract.
“You can cross Candle off the list.”
“Gladly.”
UPDATE: Mario Cristobal and Miami are targeting Toledo HC Jason Candle as Offensive Coordinator, per @FootballScoop. Candle has been HC at Toledo since 2016, compiling a 45–27 record in that span. pic.twitter.com/AgZlLv8a9d

Tysheem Johnson recently visited the Miami Hurricanes and is now visiting the Oregon Ducks. The former Ole Miss Freshman All-American safety left the Gables uncommitted and the ship appears to be sailing. The timing of it all was precarious considering the last day of enrollment was yesterday.
“It was a long shot and piss poor planning, he needed to be pushed to visit sooner but visiting the literal day before you have to be in class? Safety will be a position we put heavy emphasis on after Spring, that’s all I can offer. That and people around the program are confident Markeith will be an impact player but we need bodies regardless.” -Leeds
Although Kam Kinchens will return, the Hurricanes have lost five safeties this cycle. Brian Balom, Al Blades Jr., Jalen Harrel, Keshawn Washington and Avantae Williams all hit the portal.
“Son of a B*tch”
“We need bodies. We flat out do not have enough safeties.”
