Where the Men & Women Stand…
Can you smell it? The Madness is around the corner and both the Miami Men’s and Women’s basketball teams are poised to play a role.
First, the Lady Hurricanes: We start here because of the two programs; they are in the more precarious spot. With two conference games remaining before the ACC Tournament, the Canes sit at 17-10 (10-6), good for 7th in the ACC. The latest ‘ESPN Bracketology’ has them as a #9 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Their final two games: @Louisville 20-9 (11-5) and vs. Virginia 15-12 (4-12).
Two wins, in my mind, guarantees them a spot regardless of how they do in the ACC Tournament. Going to Louisville is no small task. If they lose and don’t look good, that could put them in a spot where they have to upset someone in the ACC Tournament to get in. This team has the talent needed to get to a Sweet Sixteen, but have been unable to get into a nice flow at all this season. Think many of us hoped that after knocking off UNC and Va. Tech that might happen but that loss at Wake was brutal…just like at Cuse on Sunday. Coach Meier needs to figure out something and turn the switch.
The Men are in. That’s it. They could drop their final three and lose their opening ACC Tournament game and still would be among the last four in. Right now, Miami 22-5 (13-4) is projected as a #4 seed. That’s a little low for me, I think they are a #3 right now and could play themselves into a #2 if they win the ACC Tournament. This team was built for this. John Ruiz and others went out, and as Jim ‘whiny bitch’ Boeheim said, bought a team. (As a long time Big East fan, ask Jim how much he paid for Billy Owens back in the day)
Miami is presently at #13 in the AP and #11 in the Coaches. They have three games left and are riding a six game winning streak. As long as they don’t stumble versus lightweights Va. Tech and FSWho, they will finish at home against Pittsburgh 19-8 (12-4) for possibly, the #1 seed in the ACC Tournament.
Can’t wait for March!!!!! Let’s Go!!!!
