Canes Smash Their Way to 9-3 Win!

The Hurricanes were looking to make it four wins in a row as they welcomed Indiana State to The Light, and they did, winning 9-3.

The Sycamores (3-2) broke the ice when RF Luis Hernandez connected to a solo shot off starter Ben Chestnutt to stake Indiana State to an early 1-0 lead. The Canes (4-1) would respond in the bottom of the second when Freshman Blake Cyr hit a 3-run homer. It was the second for Cyr on the season, and the second straight game he went yard.

The Canes offense continued to pour it on in the third when Edgardo Villegas homered to left-center. CJ Kayfus followed that with a triple and then Yoyo Morales, who earlier flashed serious leather, went deep to left for a 2-run homer.

Meanwhile, Chestnutt was in cruise control. Mixing his fastball and slider to keep hitters off balance, he allowed only two hits and a run over five stellar innings with seven strikeouts.

But let’s get back to the offense and talk about our young second baseman from Windermere. Cyr added another longball in the ninth to give him five RBIs for the game. Hate to pump a kid up early, but we heard he was a stud and he is absolutely looking the part right now. Then again, this whole offense is on fire to start. These guys are hitting homeruns like I eat cookies!

The guys get a day off before Dartmouth comes to town for three this weekend. It would certainly be nice to keep this streak going until we hit Gainesville next weekend!

About the Author: Toast

Although born and raised in Connecticut, Toast has been a Miami Hurricanes fan since the mid 80’s. He wanted to like a team that none of his friends or relatives did. The fact that liking the Canes really annoyed the crap out of many of them was just the cherry on top of the National Titles. He left the north in 1997 with only his cat and got on I-95 South and didn’t stop until it ended. Over a 20-year career, he had successful stints on various South Florida radio stations before moving on to other interests in 2020. One of those interests was the Orange Bowl Boys podcast he started with two longtime friends in 2017. This whole website is a result of that fateful first episode…silly us, we thought we were going to roll LSU that first game in Dallas.
